"Little is known of the early Kenneys (Keeney), but our history beginswith ALEXANDER KEENEY, who emigrated from Scotland and settled inWethersfield, Connecticut sometime prior to l668. He died in l680. Hiswife was ALICE COLFAX. She died in l683 and they are both buried inWethersfield."
"Among the names of the first settlers of Connecticut, which appears tohave been a party from the Pymouth Colony in Massachusetts, is the nameof Alexander Keeney, whom HINMAN especially mentions as one of the earlysettlers. He is not among those mentioned in the church records assettling in 1637, but he appears as a taxpayer and landholder in 1676.He died in 1680, leaving children listed below."
"Hinman further says; "Where these names are found in Connecticut or bythose from Connecticut, it will be found in nine cases out of ten thatthe person bearing the name of Kenney is a descendant of the firstsettlers of this name." Thus it would be safe to say that we aredescendants of this Alexander Keeney as it will be hereinafter seen thatthe line is directly traced.
