Marie Janette Kenney

Marie is the daughter of Schuyler and Rose Marie Kenney.
"Marie was brought up by her grandparents Kenney in Waterville,Minnesota. Marie's great grandmother, Eliza Semans 'Donnie', lived withthem. Marie spent many happy hours with Donnie. She attended MankatoBusiness College before she met and married Bill Dahl, a depot agent inWaterville. They bought the old Kenney homestead after Ed Kenney's deathand Mary Jenny Kenney lived the Dahls until her death. Bill wastransferred and Marie went to work in Waseca and later in Faribault andSt. Paul as a buyer in a large store. They sold the house and divorced[1949]. Marie travelled a lot to New York and Chicago with her job.
Marie married Arnold Steffen and lived in Faribault at first, thenBeaver Bay on Lake Superior. Arnold was in construction work. Later,they bought and operated a clothing store there which they sold in 1958.Marie received a permanent position as Postmaster in March 1957. Theypurchased an old landmark, a restaurant, and built the Post Office ontothe cafe. It was a thriving business with tourists from all over. Theybuilt a nice home overlooking Lake Superior. When Arnold became ill,they sold the restaurant in 1971, but Marie remained as Postmaster until1978 when she retired. In June 1979 they moved to Owatonna, Minnesotawhere they are now." Arnold and Marie moved to Owatonna, MN in 1979. After Arnold's deathin 1987, Marie moved to Faribault for a short time and then to MitchellSD in 1990.
Marie died of a heart attack on December 31, 2003.
Marie was a member of Congregational UCC Church in Mitchell, the MooseLodge and the American Legion Auxiliary, she was a past president andlifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Her stepdaughter daughter Gwen Bluhm lives in Faribault, MN. She has twochildren - John Bluhm and Jody DuBay. Obituary - 2003
