Nikoline Marie Olsdotter

Nikoline went to Troms in June 1872 to work. In 1887 Nikolineemigrated to America with her brothers Daniel and Mikkel.
Per Harald Jensen, Evenskjer, Norway writes: "Trondheim Policedep.emigrantprotokoll tells under no. 1788-89-90 in 1887 that DanielOlsen, 26 years old, Mikkel Olsen, 22 years old and Necoline Olsen, 33years old, all from Salten county, emigrated to Emmerson,Manitoba, reference to their contract with Allan-linjen by 18 May 1887.They leaved by the ship "Juno", [The Wilson Line of Hull, England,]from Trondheim. The churchbook says they left Dragland in Tjeldsund 10May 1887." Their "Port of Entry" to United States was St. Vincent.[St. Vincent, Minnesota is a few miles from Emmerson, Manitoba, Canada.]Nikoline's emigrant number was 1790. Daniel and Mikkel arrived inSt. Vincent, but Nikoline was never heard from. She was left wherethey landed and was to work as a servant girl for a farmer to get moneyto join her brothers.
Where did they leave the ship "Juno"? Was it in Canada? Per HaraldJensen thought they had landed at Ellis Island. Ellis Islandwas not open in 1887. Castle Garden, an old fort on the lower tip ofManhattan, was designated as an immigrant station from 1855 until1890. Ellis Island was the site of Fort Gibson in the War of 1812 andwas transformed into an immigration center in 1892.

The first emigrant in the Olson/Dragland family was Nils Thorsen,the brother of their father Ole Thorsen. who emigrated in 1875 andsettled in North Dakota, he arranged for others to go to America.
