Nils stayed only a short time in Fykse after his marriage. He had beenpromised a permanent job as a sharecropper under Bjorke, but he didn'tget along with the owner, so he moved to Skjold and settled there on thefarm NES.
In 1875 he became a widower. He sold his farm, with the exception of asmall area, and built a smaller house for his home.
