Knut Knutsen Langeland

Knut and Martha Langeland lived two miles from MELAND in Skjoldvik.
He was a farmer and officer in the Norwegian Army. During the Germanoccupation he was captured and in a war prison for some time. Thorborghas a book that was written about Knut and his war experience. When wevisited Norway in June 1996, we went to a memorial to the Norwegians whotried to escape the Germans. The memorial refers to the KRINGEN (theterm for WWII) . The Norwegians were on a bus that ran out of gas, mostof them were shot by the Germans. Knut had hidden in a barn behind alarge pig, the pig was shot and killed. Knut was reported to have saidhe was saved by a pig. Knut was later captured and was a prisoner of warfor several years.
