Jemima Webster

"Governor John Webster and wife, Agnes Smith Webster, came toMassachusetts Bay Colony in a year not certainly known, but understood tohave been about 1630-33. He removed from Newtowne, now Cambridge, Mass.to the present site of Hartford, Conn. in 1636 presumably with the Rev.Thomas Hooker and his historic party. They had: Lieut. Robert Webster,who was born in 1627, at Leicester, England. He married Susannah Treatin 1652, who was born in 1629. She was a daughter of Richard Treat andJoanna of Wethersfield, Conn. [Richard Treat and his wife, Joanna, cameto America in an early day and brought part of their family with them.They were among the fist settlers of Wethersfield, Conn. and their son,Hon. Robert Treat was the 8th governor of Connecticut, serving fifteenyears, beginning 1683.] Robert and Susannah had: DEACON JONATHONWEBSTER who married Dorcas Hopkins. They had Jonathan Webster, whomarried Esther Judd. They had STEPHEN WEBSTER, who married REBECCAWILLIAMS, and had JEMIMA WEBSTER, who married REUBEN KEENEY I.
Note: The name of "Williams" appears several times in the Kenney line,usually as a middle name. It was the maiden name of Jemima Webster'smother.
Note: Among the papers of Leslie K. Pollard is the following notation:Noah Webster, of dictionary fame, was a descendant in the fourthgeneration from Governor Webster and his mother from William Bradford,Governor of Plymouth Colony." Pollard - "Are We Related?" - page 14.

Church of Bradford, Pa. who is a distant relative of ours.Mrs. Jemima Keeney, wife of Reuben Keeney was your greatgrandmother. Shewas a daughter of Stephen Webster Jr. of Conn. whose grandfather wasJohnathan Webster from whom Rev. M. W. Webster was a decendant. TheWebsters came to this country in 1630 from Warwickshire, England. One ofthem, John Webster, was Colonial governor of Conn. Noah Webster ofDictionary fame was a decendant in the 4th generation from you. Websterand his mother from William Bradford 2nd governor of Plymouth Colony, soyou will see that their decendants have hardly kept up with ancestors.Rev. M. W.
