Arne Daniel Rydland
Arne was born in Sharon, North Dakota on June 29, 1919. His father wasattending Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1920 the familymoved to Van Hook, North Dakota where his father had accepted his firstcall as a minister. When he was three years old the family moved toFranklin, Minnesota. Arne attended school in Franklin and then collegeat St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota. He spent his summers at LakeCrystal with the family. I can recall the summer we had a family picnicin Moorhead, Minnesota and bid good bye to Arne as he set off on hishitch hike trip to California. Upon graduation from St. Olaf, he enteredmedical school at Marquette Medical school. He joined the Navy andserved his internship at the U. S. Naval hospital in Great Lakes,Illinois. On April 7, 1945 Lt. jg Arne Daniel Rydland married HelenMarie Foker at Crookston, Minnesota.
Arne served in the Navy during WW II and the Korean War. He completedhis surgical residency at the University of Minnesota and in 1956 joinedthe Bloomington Lake Clinic in Minneapolis where he practiced until heretired in 1984. Dick and Arline Kenney were privileged to attend hisinitiation to the American College of Surgeons as a Fellow on October 16,1975 at the Civic Auditorium, San Francisco, California.
Arne was chief of surgery and chief of staff at Lutheran DeaconessHospital in Minneapolis.
Arne and Helen were the parents of nine children: Robert, Jayne,Kathryn, Karen, Richard, Daniel, David, Judy. and Nancy,
[Robert and Roxanne Rydland; Jayne and Stan Magnuson; Kathryn and DavidGilbertson; Karen and Roger Olson; Richard and Valerie Rydland; Danieland Nancy Rydland; David Rydland and Pam Bray; Judy Rydland and NancyRydland.
They are a close family, traveled to many interesting places and had manyhappy family gatherings.
Arne and Helen were very active at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church inMinneapolis. Arne served on many boards and committees.
Arne died of emphysema on February 18, 1995. He is buried at LakewoodCemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
