Edward must have enjoyed woodworking. He gave a wall cabinet he hadmade to his grandson Richard Edward Kenney when Richard was 14 yearsold. The cabinet has glass doors, small divided drawers and boxes thatfit perfectly inside. Some of the boxes and drawers are labeled brads, etc. This cabinet has been in our home for many years and is a treasuredfamily heirloom. Arline Kenney
The Kenney family Bible and Ed Kenney's autograph book were sent to meby Marie Kenney Steffen. The Bible contains information regardingbirths, deaths, and marriages of the Kenney, Semans, and Holdenfamilies. These are also treasured heirlooms in the Kenney home. Email from Dave Howe, May 26, 2025
Jeff – Melissa Kenney Howe is my daughter-in-law. I know that her grandmother, whom I met a number of times, was deeply involved in researching Meland/Kenney family history. I have been working on getting Melissa’s family history linked into the very extensive Howe tree on Familysearch. (Familysearch is my preferred online genealogy database because it is extensive, free, and, I believe, is likely to last longer than some of the other databases since it is tied directly into the Mormon church.) On a recent visit to Tom and Melissa, I went through some of the genealogical documents that Melissa got from her grandmother.
My question related to Edward D. Kenney (1822-1884), Melissa’s ancestor. Arline’s information indicates Henry E Kenney had one wife, Ermina Mariah Holden. They had a number of chilren including Edward D. Kenney, Melissa’s great great grandfather. However, the genealogy on Familysearch is shown below: (see images comments section)
You will note that this shows Henry E. Kenney as having three wives and that Edward D. Kenney mother was Christina Holden. I believe that Arline’s tree is correct and that Edwin Henry Kenney (LKQ2-C15) and Edward D. Kenney (9J1T-CG1) are the same person. Note that they have the same birthyear! Furthermore, it would appear that Ermina Mariah Holden (LCJY-LW1) and Christena Holden (GPWH-6QS) are also the same person whose given name was Ermina. Again note the same birthyear. I noticed in one record that Ermina also used the diminutive “Mina” which could have gotten misrecorded as “Christina”. I also believe that Emily M Chapin was married to Henry E. Kenney’s cousin, Henry M. Kenney. If these assumptions are correct, I would like to update the information on Familysearch, but I have no supporting information except for a family tree that I got from Melissa.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you have any supporting information related to Edward D. Kenney’s mother?
Thank you,
Dave Howe
